Aliases

An external database is a collection of files. These files can be kept in a directory on your local hard disk or on a network server. You can assign a name (an alias) as a shortcut to a directory using the

ALIAS MANADER dialog box (menu command UTILITIES > ALIASES).

Aliases give you several advantages:

· You avoid typing long path names.

· You can access a database from any directory without changing directories.

For example, if you have a collection of tables and queries in one directory, you can specify the alias :MYWORK: rather than type the entire path.
