An external database is a collection of files. These files can be kept in a
directory on your local hard disk or on a network server. You can assign a name
(an alias) as a shortcut to a directory using the
Aliases give you several advantages:
· You avoid typing long path names.
· You can access a database from any directory without changing directories.
For example, if you have a collection of tables and queries in one directory,
you can specify the alias :MYWORK: rather than type the entire path.
